Outstanding Mother Awards 2023 Honoree Elizabeth Buchanan
A note from my Sophie remembering a very special Mother's Day from a couple of years ago 🩷 (P.S. I love you too Sophie! xx)
Every mothers day since 2023 I have always thought back to the outstanding mothers awards. My mum, Elizabeth Buchanan was chosen to get one of the awards. We were sitting at the table slightly right in front of the stage. I was sitting next to mum and my sister Charlotte. I looked over at mum and I saw that she had note cards and I saw my name on one of them. When mum was called on stage, when she got up there no one knew what she would say. She started with thanking everyone, then she got to the main part of her speech. Growing up all of us, but me and my brother Baxter mostly, have always been asking who her favorite child is, so she decided to tell us in her speech.
She started with Sarah the oldest. Sarah — set the example for her of how to lead with love, Hannah — gives her hugs when she doesn't realize she needs them, Charlotte — reminds her how to be a better listener, Sophie (me) — born with congenital heart disease, taught mum "how to have courage to climb a mountain", Baxter (my annoying brother) — taught her how to relish the small yet beautiful moments.
After mum gave the speech she came down and she told us that she was debating between starting with the oldest Sarah or the youngest Baxter. She knew if she started with Baxter I would be very mad with her because I might have thought he was her actual favorite.
Every mothers day I always think back to that day. Mum has always been by my side since day one. Been by everyone's side since day one. Even when the days were long and hard she never left. I am grateful to be able to call her my mum. I love you mum. 💕💕
